Coronavirus: Italy feels abandoned by the European Union

The European Union abandons Italy amid the coronavirus.

The European Union seems to be taking a little more distance on certain specific issues and it is precisely the coronavirus that has led it to behave in such a way, because not only has the recent departure of the United Kingdom to the bloc been enough, but it has opted to leave Italy abandoned in the midst of a rather complex health crisis.

Why has the European Union distanced itself from Italy?

Definitely the Italian people are highly sunk by the coronavirus pandemic and there is no way that this can be stopped quickly, since it is already evident that there is no presence of the European Union in this country, since the Italians have had to settle for just seeing them through television and this is usually reflected even more alarming when surveys carried out by the agency Noto Sondaggi have published results indicating that 66 percent of those surveyed say they will not get help from the bloc or worse still 72 percent consider that the Union has simply not helped at all.

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and with how abandoned Italy is for the countries that claimed to be its friends, it has been China that has chosen to reach out to it, and that is that the Asian giant has contributed more than 30 tons of material just in the first days as well as a group of specialists dedicated to collaborating, since this strengthens the gap between the country and the European Union, since by this time the number of pro-Europeans has risen from 64 percent to 49 percent and could even be reduced still plus.

Could the European Union be losing Italy?

From saying to doing, there is a long way to go, but with the state of abandonment that exists on the part of the bloc, the persistent loneliness with which Italy has had to fight, the enormous sacrifice experienced recently, the financial crisis that has not yet overcome, the crisis due to the issue of refugees arriving from Africa, give serious indications that this process could be carried out, since the disillusionment between Italy and Brussels is quite evident.

Italy is simply totally disconnected from the EU, for a large part of the population it is really useless to continue in the bloc, since they have been able to perceive a quite large change and not exactly positive, since, currently, expectations have been slowly dying, especially when the ECB President Christine Lagarde practically turned her back on Italy.

For his part, the President of that nation, Sergio Mattarella, has been clear saying that: "It is possible to wait, at least in the common interest, for solidarity initiatives and not movements that may hinder action", only that the EU cannot expect anything . Meanwhile, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has chosen to align himself with Pedro Sánchez, President of Spain, and thus propose what could be the last meeting with the bloc.

In one way or another, the European Union has completely separated itself from Italy in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, even though it is a full member of this country.
